La Semaine de La Mode (LSDLM) is an annual event organized by the French Literature Study Program, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES). Now in its second year, LSDLM continues to grow as a platform that combines creativity, art, culture, and French language appreciation through a series of educational, competitive, and inspirational activities.

In its inaugural edition, LSDLM adopted the theme “Retro,” presenting a classic atmosphere rich with color and nostalgia. Meanwhile, for its second year, the theme “Regency Era” was chosen to invite participants and audiences to experience the elegance and aesthetics of the European royal era, synonymous with luxury, sophistication, and classical charm.

True to the meaning of “La Mode” (fashion), the highlight of LSDLM featured a fashion show competition as its main attraction. Through this competition, participants showcased their creativity, confidence, and interpretation of the theme through their designed and worn outfits. The fashion show was not merely a competition but also a space for self-expression that integrates art, aesthetics, and innovation in the world of fashion.

Beyond being a fashion showcase, LSDLM also served as a space for high school students (or equivalent) and university students from various regions across Indonesia to demonstrate their French language skills through a variety of competitions. The competition categories included French news reading, poetry reading, and singing in French. These competitions are expected to serve as a means for participants to develop their language skills, boost their confidence, and simultaneously broaden their appreciation of French culture.

The festive atmosphere was further enlivened by various artistic performances. Visitors were treated to musical performances, vocal acts, and special appearances from guest stars who added to the excitement of the event series. The combination of competition and entertainment made LSDLM a gathering place for art, language, and culture enthusiasts in a spirited and creative atmosphere.

Through the fusion of fashion, language, culture, and performing arts, La Semaine de La Mode is expected to provide a memorable experience for both participants and visitors. This event also reflects the commitment of the UNNES French Literature Study Program to introducing French language and culture to the public, while simultaneously encouraging the emergence of a young generation that is creative, globally minded, and capable of competing at both national and international levels.

Support for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

La Semaine de La Mode 2026 actively supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By providing a platform for students to develop creative, linguistic, and artistic competencies, this event contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education by enhancing educational experiences that extend beyond the classroom and foster holistic skill development. The event also encourages the cultivation of creativity and innovation, aligning with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, by nurturing creative talent who can drive innovation in the cultural and creative industries. Furthermore, by promoting cross-cultural understanding and providing opportunities for participants from diverse regions to connect and collaborate, LSDLM supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening networks and cooperation in education, culture, and the arts. Through this event, UNNES reaffirms its dedication to producing graduates who are not only academically excellent but also culturally aware, creative, and ready to contribute to sustainable development.
