The Master’s Program in English Language Education, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), successfully organized its annual Alumni Back to Campus 2026 program, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening connections between alumni, students, and the academic community. The program served as a platform for distinguished alumni to return to their alma mater and share their academic journeys, professional experiences, and career insights with current graduate students.
Held online via Zoom Meeting, the event took place over two sessions: Saturday, May 30, 2026 (07.30–12.00 WIB) and Sunday, May 31, 2026 (11.00–15.00 WIB). The program featured four accomplished alumni representing higher education, research institutions, and international educational organizations, providing participants with diverse perspectives on career development and professional growth.
The first session welcomed Dr. Rama Dwika Herdiawan, M.Pd. from Universitas Majalengka, who presented “Pursuing Higher Education and Scholarships,” offering valuable guidance on postgraduate study opportunities and scholarship preparation. This was followed by Dr. Aldha Williyan, M.Pd. from Universitas Siliwangi, who shared practical insights through his presentation, “Becoming Professional English Educators,” highlighting the competencies and professional values required of English language educators in today’s educational landscape.
The second session featured Rahmatika Dewi, M.Pd., Ph.D., a researcher at Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), who delivered a presentation entitled “Publishing Academic Articles as Graduate Students.” She discussed effective strategies for conducting research, writing scholarly articles, and publishing in reputable academic journals. The event concluded with R.A. Gaganawati Dyah Panca Harsanti Stegmann, M.Pd., an educator at Gemeinschaftsschule Wilhelmsschule Tuttlingen, Germany, who presented “Skills Needed for Today’s Job Market.” Her session emphasized the essential competencies, adaptability, intercultural communication skills, and lifelong learning mindset required to thrive in an increasingly globalized workforce.
As an annual flagship program of the Master’s Program in English Language Education, Alumni Back to Campus reflects the program’s commitment to preparing graduates who are academically competent, professionally skilled, and ready to contribute to society. Alumni serve as valuable partners in enriching students’ learning experiences by connecting classroom knowledge with real-world professional practice.
Through direct interaction with alumni, students gained authentic insights into higher education pathways, research careers, academic publishing, educational leadership, and employment opportunities both nationally and internationally. The program also encouraged meaningful discussions on current challenges in education, digital transformation, and the evolving demands of the global workplace.
The implementation of Alumni Back to Campus 2026 aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting inclusive, high-quality education and lifelong learning opportunities. By facilitating knowledge exchange between alumni and students, the program strengthens students’ academic competencies, professional literacy, communication skills, and career readiness.
Furthermore, the program contributes to SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by fostering collaboration among the university, alumni, students, research institutions, and educational organizations. These partnerships play a vital role in enhancing the quality of higher education while creating opportunities for future collaboration in research, internships, community engagement, and graduate employability.
The event also supports the vision of the Master’s Program in English Language Education at UNNES to become a leading graduate program in developing innovative English language education through the integration of language education theory, linguistics, literacy approaches, and research-based practices that contribute to character development and quality education.
By learning directly from alumni who have successfully pursued careers in academia, research, and international education, students were encouraged to strengthen their academic capabilities, expand their professional networks, and develop innovative perspectives in English language education.
More than a networking event, Alumni Back to Campus 2026 reflects the Master’s Program’s ongoing commitment to cultivating an innovative, collaborative, and research-oriented academic culture.
