Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) conferred degrees on 1,500 graduates at its 142nd Graduation Ceremony. On the occasion, UNNES Rector Prof. Dr. S. Martono, M.Si., reminded the graduates that the success of education is reflected not only in academic achievements, but also in the contributions they make to society and the environment.
Prof. Martono congratulated all graduates who had successfully completed their studies at UNNES. He also expressed appreciation to their parents, who had accompanied and supported their sons and daughters throughout their educational journeys until they reached graduation.
According to him, the achievements of the graduates were the result of a long process and considerable effort that deserved to be appreciated and celebrated with gratitude. After completing their higher education, graduates are expected to apply the knowledge and competencies they have acquired to make meaningful contributions to society.
On the occasion, Prof. Martono also highlighted UNNES’s achievement in the 2026 UI GreenMetric ranking. UNNES was recognized as the most sustainable teacher-training institution (LPTK) in Indonesia. This achievement forms part of UNNES’s ongoing journey toward realizing its vision of becoming a world-renowned university and a pioneer of educational excellence grounded in conservation.
“For society, the most concrete realization of this vision is reflected in the behavior of its alumni. Society will assess this achievement based on the willingness and ability of UNNES alumni to contribute to the preservation of the environment, arts, and culture,” Prof. Martono said.
He explained that conservation values have been an integral part of UNNES’s journey for 16 years. These values have not only been developed through the curriculum, but have also been put into practice through various policies and initiatives across the university environment.
Therefore, graduates are expected to carry these values with them when they return to their respective communities. The attitudes, words, and behavior of alumni are important in reflecting the values that have been cultivated throughout their education at UNNES.
Prof. Martono also highlighted the increasingly complex challenges involved in protecting and preserving the environment. These challenges are not limited to policies and institutional structures, but also involve culture and everyday behavior.
In responding to these conditions, graduates are expected to play roles appropriate to their respective fields of expertise and professions. He highlighted three important principles for the graduates: considering the long-term impacts of every decision, applying their academic and professional competencies with social and ecological awareness, and becoming agents of change who are able to engage and empower communities.
“Be agents of change who are able to engage and empower,” he urged.
The 142nd UNNES Graduation Ceremony was attended by 1,500 graduates, comprising 17 doctoral graduates, 50 master’s graduates, 2 professional program graduates, 1,430 bachelor’s graduates, and 1 diploma graduate.
Through these graduates, UNNES hopes that the educational and conservation values acquired during their time on campus will continue to be put into practice in their professional lives and communities.
