Surakarta – Students from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), have once again achieved a remarkable accomplishment. A team from the Sociology and Anthropology Education Study Program consisting of Denika Riza Angelin, Irwin Ardiansyah Hartanto, and Abyan Akhtar won First Place in the Documentary Video Competition with their work entitled “Between Hope and Uncertainty” at the National Student Competition of the Indonesian Association of Sociology and Anthropology Education Study Programs (APPSANTI) x CARVENOS 2026.
The award was presented on Saturday, August 1, 2026, as part of the National Working Meeting of the Indonesian Association of Sociology and Anthropology Education Study Programs (APPSANTI), hosted by the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), Surakarta. The competition brought together Sociology and Anthropology Education students from universities across Indonesia to showcase creative documentary works addressing a wide range of social issues.
The success of the FISIP UNNES team reflects a creative process that combined sociological perspectives, research skills, and visual communication techniques to present social realities in a critical and humanistic manner. Through their documentary, “Between Hope and Uncertainty,” the team portrayed the lives of communities facing various social challenges, encouraging audiences to develop greater empathy and a deeper understanding of the complexities experienced by vulnerable groups.
The achievement was made possible under the guidance of Amrin Ma’ruf, S.Pd., M.Pd., who supervised the students throughout the entire process—from concept development and strengthening the academic content to refining the documentary’s production quality. His mentorship reflects the Sociology and Anthropology Education Study Program’s commitment to fostering research-based learning, creativity, and social engagement among its students.
Amrin Ma’ruf expressed his appreciation for the team’s dedication and perseverance throughout the competition. According to him, the achievement demonstrates that students are capable of integrating sociological and anthropological knowledge with digital media to produce creative works that possess both academic value and meaningful social impact.
“This achievement proves that students are not only capable of understanding social theories but are also able to translate them into creative works that give voice to social realities. I hope this accomplishment inspires other students to continue creating, innovating, and contributing to society through knowledge and creativity,” he said.
The victory further strengthens the culture of academic excellence, innovation, collaboration, and social responsibility within FISIP UNNES. Beyond bringing pride to the Sociology and Anthropology Education Study Program, the achievement demonstrates that UNNES students are highly competitive at the national level through creative works that promote humanitarian values and scholarly excellence.
This accomplishment is also aligned with Universitas Negeri Semarang’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The documentary, which highlights contemporary social issues, contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing students’ academic competencies, digital literacy, and creativity. Its focus on vulnerable communities also supports SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by raising awareness of social disparities and encouraging greater social inclusion. Furthermore, it contributes to SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) by promoting public awareness of social justice, human rights, and inclusive societies. The collaboration among students, their academic supervisor, and APPSANTI also reflects the implementation of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening national academic networks to advance innovative and socially impactful Sociology and Anthropology Education. Through this achievement, FISIP UNNES students have once again demonstrated that scholarly work and creative media can serve as powerful instruments for fostering social awareness and driving positive social change.
