The Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has officially established an international partnership with Walailak University, Thailand. The collaboration was marked by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony, followed by a Guest Lecture and Student Mobility Program socialization held at the FBS UNNES campus on Thursday (10/4/2026).

The event featured Dr. Treenuch C from Walailak University as a keynote speaker. It aimed to introduce various academic collaboration opportunities, including student exchange programs, joint research, and cross-border community service.

During the session, delegates from Walailak University presented the institution’s vision, mission, study programs, professional prospects, and annual student activities. A key agreement includes sending five Walailak students for an international teaching practicum (PPL) at UNNES’s Lab School. This program is expected to serve as a model for strengthening global competencies among future educators.

Acting Dean of FBS UNNES, Prof. Dr. Nur Qudus, M.T., IPM., expressed appreciation for the partnership. He noted that collaborating with international universities like Walailak is a strategic step toward campus internationalization.

“We are not only opening access for UNNES students to study in Thailand but also welcoming international students to practice here. This is tangible progress that aligns with the SDGs, particularly Goal 4 on Quality Education,” Prof. Nur Qudus stated.

Meanwhile, Vice Dean III of FBS UNNES, Mohamad Yusuf Ahmad Hasyim, Lc., M.A., Ph.D., added that the student mobility socialization is a crucial moment for students to prepare for global challenges.

“We want our students to excel not only domestically but also to gain cross-cultural experience. Dr. Treenuch C’s presence provides direct insight into Thailand’s education system. This supports efforts to reduce disparities in access to international education (SDG 10) and to foster global partnerships (SDG 17),” he explained.

During the guest lecture, Dr. Treenuch C also outlined various scholarship opportunities and exchange pathways available at Walailak University. FBS UNNES students in attendance showed great enthusiasm during the Q&A session, particularly regarding academic requirements and campus culture in Thailand.

The event concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to promptly realize the international teaching practicum program, along with other collaborative plans such as joint research and international publications.

Through this partnership, FBS UNNES aims to further expand its global network while enhancing the competitiveness of its graduates on the international stage.
