Brief Profile

Bachelor Geography Education Study Program is one of the study programs under the auspices of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Negeri Semarang. The Study Program currently has the status of “Excellent” Accreditation from BAN-PT (S.K. BAN-PT 7842/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-PPj/S/XII/2020).

To support the process of learning/education, research, and community service is supported by the existence of laboratories that currently have 11 sub-laboratories, namely soil laboratories, Cartography laboratories, Education and Disaster laboratories, Geology and Geomorphology laboratories, Geographic Information Systems laboratories, Remote Sensing laboratories, Microteaching/Learning laboratories, Hydrology and Meteorology laboratories, Demography laboratories Engineering/Population, Terrestris Survey laboratory, and Spatial Analysis Laboratory.

The Study Program produces qualified, excellent, and competitive graduates as Geography teachers and researchers/developers in the field of geography education at the local, regional, and international levels.

Scientific Vision

Developing excellent geography education with a reputation in ASIA with a conservation perspective.

Objectives

  1. To produce prospective geography educators with 21st-century skills (6 C’s: Creativity, Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, Character, and Citizenship).
  2. To graduate competent professionals in geography with a conservation-oriented perspective.
  3. To produce academic outputs and publications through research and community service in geography.
  4. To establish national and international (Asia) collaborations in the tri dharma of higher education.

Strategies

  1. Adopting innovative teaching methods that encourage students to analyze, evaluate, and solve complex geographical issues such as environmental problems, climate change, and urbanization.
  2. Organizing communication training for prospective geography educators, encompassing presentation skills, academic writing, and digital technologies to communicate with broader audiences.
  3. Optimizing digital platforms such as e-learning, social media, and online collaboration tools to enhance communication, collaboration, and creativity skills.
  4. Promoting the utilization of spatial and environmental data in real-world case studies related to conservation, such as mapping areas vulnerable to ecological damage or changes in land use.
  5. Engaging students and faculty in relevant local conservation projects, such as coastal area preservation or forest conservation, to enable the application of global knowledge in local contexts.
  6. Establishing partnerships with government institutions, environmental organizations, and private sector entities in the conservation field to support practical learning, research, and graduate employability.
  7. Providing continuous mentorship in designing, conducting, and publishing research.
  8. Involving students in faculty-led research projects as research assistants or contributors to familiarize them with professional research processes.
  9. Conducting scientific writing training for students, including journal article writing, citation guideline adherence, and submission processes to reputable journals.
  10. Participating in academic consortia or alliances at national and international levels (Asia) to facilitate collaboration in education, research, and community service.
  11. Offering fellowship programs or short courses for faculty and students to teach or study at partner universities, domestically and internationally (Asia), to broaden their global perspectives.
  12. Developing joint research projects with partner university researchers in Asia, focusing on cross-border issues such as climate change, disaster management, and natural resource conservation.
