SEMARANG — Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has established academic collaboration with Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Malaysia, through a collaborative learning program. The initiative is part of UNNES’s efforts to strengthen the internationalization of education and provide students with learning experiences in an international academic environment.

The collaborative learning program began on April 16, 2026, through an online joint lecture involving fourth-semester students of the Communication Studies Program. The activity brought together lecturers and students from UNNES and UPSI in a shared learning environment.

The program involved Dr. Ahmad Sauffiyan bin Abu Hasan from UPSI in the Social Campaign Planning course and Restu Ayu Mumpuni, S.I.Kom., M.I.Kom. from UNNES in the Public Relations course.

This collaborative learning program is part of UNNES’s internationalization efforts through academic partnerships with overseas universities. Through the program, students have the opportunity to interact and learn with students from another country while gaining insights into differences in educational systems and learning cultures.

“This learning activity gave me a new experience by allowing me to learn and interact with students from another country,” said one of the participating students.

In addition to gaining academic knowledge, students also developed skills that support effective communication and adaptability in an international learning environment. Cross-cultural interaction provided students with opportunities to broaden their perspectives and understand different approaches to learning and communication.

Head of the Communication Studies Program at UNNES, Dr. Nugraheni Arumasi, S.Sos., M.I.Kom., emphasized the importance of continuing international academic collaboration to provide students with broader learning experiences and global competencies.

“We hope this collaboration can become a sustainable program that strengthens international partnerships while equipping students with global competencies,” she said.

The collaboration between UNNES and UPSI is expected to continue through various academic activities. Beyond strengthening institutional relations between the two universities, the partnership also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 on Quality Education.

Through collaborative learning initiatives, UNNES continues to promote open, inclusive, and globally oriented learning experiences that prepare students to engage and compete in an increasingly interconnected world.
