Twenty days before the turn of the year, lecturers, education staff, and cleaning personnel of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at UNNES held a 2025 year end reflection meeting. The forum discussed various challenges the faculty will face in 2026.
One of the ten key challenges set for lecturers next year is the requirement to publish articles in Scopus-indexed international journals. “Each lecturer is expected to produce at least one article in an international Scopus-indexed journal, known as one lecturer one Scopus or OLOS,” said the Dean of FISIP UNNES, Prof. Arif Purnomo, on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at the C7 Hall, Sekaran, Gunungpati, Semarang.
Arif assured that the 130 lecturers of FISIP need not worry about funding for international publications. “The university has allocated Rp15 billion to support international publication costs,” he explained.
The Professor of Social Studies Education also encouraged lecturers to make full use of the funding. “The university will cover publication costs for research articles that have not received funding from previous research schemes,” he added.
The publication target is expected to strengthen UNNES’ position at the international level. Other challenges for the upcoming year include increasing the percentage of higher education and vocational graduates who secure employment, pursue further studies, or establish their own businesses within one year of graduation. Additionally, UNNES aims to increase the number of lecturers receiving international recognition and enhance the university’s involvement in SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 17 (Partnerships), and two other SDGs aligned with its areas of excellence.
During the meeting, student representatives also shared their hopes for FISIP in 2026. “Improving facilities and infrastructure, as well as enhancing the quality of education,” said Andreas Wijaksono.
Responding to the input, Arif stated that gradual improvements to faculty facilities will continue. “I also encourage lecturers to strengthen their research and community engagement,” he said.
UNNES is also planning to open recruitment for non-civil servant (non-PNS) lecturers in 2026. For FISIP, six lecturer positions will be available, including in Geography, Communication Science, and International Relations.
