Equal opportunities are essential to creating space for persons with disabilities to grow, create, and contribute meaningfully to society.
This message emerged during the Sharing Session and Film Screening of “Langit Tetap Sama”, organized by the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), in collaboration with the Sahabat Mata Community of Semarang, on Friday, September 11, 2026.
The event was not merely a forum for appreciating a film, but also served as an educational and reflective space to raise awareness about the importance of building a more inclusive social and educational environment.
Through the activity, students were encouraged to view persons with disabilities from a broader perspective. Rather than focusing solely on physical limitations, participants were invited to recognize their potential, abilities, creativity, and equal rights to access opportunities and participate fully in society.
The film “Langit Tetap Sama” is a work produced by the Sahabat Mata Community, a community whose members include persons with visual disabilities. The film conveys messages about life, struggle, independence, and the importance of a supportive environment for persons with disabilities.
The screening also served as a form of public education, highlighting that physical limitations do not prevent individuals from producing creative works. With adequate access, a supportive environment, and equal opportunities, persons with disabilities can develop their talents and contribute actively to society.
Following the screening, the event continued with a sharing and discussion session with members of the Sahabat Mata Community. Students had the opportunity to hear firsthand experiences of persons with visual disabilities in navigating daily life, accessing education, engaging with society, and developing creative works.
The discussion also emphasized that inclusion cannot be achieved through physical accessibility alone. Openness, respect for diversity, access to information, and equal opportunities for participation are equally important in creating a truly inclusive campus environment.
Through this activity, FISIP UNNES continues to encourage greater student awareness of social inclusion and equality. The collaboration with the Sahabat Mata Community also reflects the faculty’s commitment to strengthening engagement between higher education institutions and the wider community.
