The celebration of the 61st Anniversary (Dies Natalis) of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) marks an important milestone for the university community to reaffirm its commitment to advancing UNNES’ vision as a World-Class University and Pioneer of Educational Excellence with a Conservation Perspective. Under the theme “Moving Forward, Making an Impact” (Bergerak, Berdampak!), the university highlights its determination to generate tangible contributions to society through education, research, innovation, and community engagement that support sustainable development.

In his annual address, as presented in the 2026 Rector’s Annual Report, Prof. Dr. S. Martono, M.Si., Rector of UNNES, emphasized that at the age of 61, UNNES continues to transform itself to deliver meaningful impacts on society, the nation, and the global community. This commitment is reflected in the university’s efforts to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into all aspects of its academic mission and institutional development. UNNES is increasingly positioning itself not only as a center of academic excellence but also as a catalyst for sustainable social, economic, and environmental progress.

Supporting this vision, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UNNES has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its contribution through the advancement of social and political sciences. According to Dean of FISIP, Prof. Arif Purnomo, the faculty continues to move forward by supporting the university’s strategic agenda through education, research, and community service activities that address contemporary societal challenges. He noted that FISIP is committed to making meaningful contributions to the achievement of the SDGs while strengthening the role of social and political sciences in responding to public policy issues, community empowerment, democratic governance, and sustainable development.

As one of the key academic units within UNNES, FISIP plays a strategic role in producing research-based solutions and policy recommendations that benefit society. Through critical learning, policy-oriented research, and community engagement initiatives, the faculty contributes directly to the university’s mission of becoming an impactful institution whose work extends beyond campus boundaries.

The spirit of the anniversary celebration is also reflected in the aspirations of students. Arum Wulan Sucitra, a Communication Studies student from the Class of 2025, expressed her hope that UNNES will continue to grow, produce outstanding graduates, and remain a welcoming environment for learning, creativity, and personal development. She also conveyed her wishes for continued success, health, and prosperity for the entire UNNES community as the university enters its seventh decade of service to higher education.

Similarly, Dhoni Frizky, a graduate student in the Master’s Program in Social Studies Education (PIPS), highlighted the supportive academic environment at FISIP. He described his experience at the faculty as enjoyable, noting that the learning facilities are comprehensive and that students frequently benefit from public lectures and academic forums featuring international scholars and experts. According to him, these opportunities significantly broaden students’ perspectives and enrich their academic experiences.

The positive experiences shared by students reflect UNNES’ broader efforts to enhance educational quality and international engagement. The university continues to strengthen Outcome-Based Education (OBE), expand international partnerships, increase the number of internationally accredited study programs, and encourage innovative digital learning practices that prepare graduates for global challenges.

As UNNES celebrates its 61st anniversary, the university is further solidifying its transformation into an Impactful Campus—one that not only pursues academic excellence and global recognition but also delivers measurable benefits to society. Through the spirit of “Moving Forward, Making an Impact,” FISIP UNNES remains committed to supporting the university’s aspirations of becoming a World-Class Conservation University and a Role Model of Education, while expanding its contribution to sustainable development and creating lasting impacts at the local, national, and global levels.
