UNNES Menari 2026: Dance Strengthens National Identity through Cultural Preservation on World Dance Day

Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), through the Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS), organized UNNES Menari 2026 in commemoration of World Dance Day on April 30, 2026. Carrying the theme “Folk Dance Echoes: Presing Tradition and Strengthening Identity,” the event aimed to reinforce national identity through dance and cultural expression.

Held at the FBS UNNES Dean’s Office field, the event involved hundreds of participants, including students, alumni, art communities, and local artists. Performances were conducted throughout the day, showcasing various traditional dances that reflect the richness of Indonesian culture, particularly from Central Java.

UNNES Menari serves not only as an artistic performance but also as an educational platform and a space for cultural appreciation. Through this event, dance is positioned as a medium for learning, character building, and preserving local wisdom values passed down across generations.

The event also highlights the strategic role of universities in sustaining cultural heritage. Students are actively involved not only as performers but also in organizing the event, enabling them to develop artistic skills, collaboration, and cultural awareness, ensuring that traditional dance continues to evolve and remain relevant.

Moreover, UNNES Menari 2026 contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through arts-based learning, SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) through cultural preservation, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through collaboration among stakeholders in the arts and cultural sectors.
