Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has once again achieved a remarkable milestone in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2026 by securing first place among Teacher Training Universities (LPTK) and ranking fourth nationally among 217 universities in Indonesia. This achievement reflects UNNES’s strong commitment to implementing conservation-based and sustainable campus principles.
The accomplishment is the result of collective efforts from university leaders, lecturers, staff members, students, and Conservation Groups across faculties, units, and campus areas. Various sustainability programs implemented in an integrated manner have contributed significantly to UNNES’s performance in this international ranking.
UI GreenMetric is a global university ranking system that evaluates institutional commitment to sustainability through indicators such as environmental governance, energy and climate change management, waste management, water conservation, sustainable transportation, and sustainability-related education and research.
The Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Information Systems of UNNES, Prof. Dr. Ngabiyanto, M.Si., expressed appreciation for the achievement. “This accomplishment is not merely about numbers or rankings. It reflects the collective commitment of the entire UNNES academic community to building a sustainable conservation culture. It demonstrates that collaboration, innovation, and consistency in environmental management can generate impacts recognized nationally and internationally,” he said.
According to Prof. Ngabiyanto, the achievement should serve as motivation for continuous improvement. “We will continue strengthening research, innovation, and the implementation of technologies that support sustainable campus management. We hope UNNES can become a role model for other universities in integrating education, conservation, and sustainable development,” he added.
The UNNES Subdirectorate of Conservation has also played an active role in supporting various environmental programs that contribute to UI GreenMetric assessments, including green open space management, Ecofarm development, integrated waste management, water conservation initiatives, and the strengthening of conservation culture across the campus.
This achievement further reinforces UNNES’s position as a conservation-oriented university that excels not only in academic performance but also in its tangible contributions to environmental preservation and sustainable development.
This achievement supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
