KARIMUNJAWA – The Community Service Team from the Mathematics Group, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), conducted a teacher competence strengthening program at MA NU Safinatul Huda Karimunjawa.
The activity was entitled “Strengthening the Competence of MA NU Safinatul Huda Karimunjawa Teachers through the Implementation of Differentiated Assessment and the Use of Learning Media”. The program was held on June 11-13, 2026, at MA NU Safinatul Huda, Karimunjawa.
The activity was attended by teachers of MA NU Safinatul Huda as part of an effort to support the improvement of learning quality and teachers’ professional competence in responding to the changing challenges of education.
This activity is related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education. Through teacher competence strengthening, this program supports the development of more effective, adaptive, and student-oriented learning.
During the three-day program, participants received materials on the concept of differentiated assessment, strategies for its implementation in learning, and the use of various learning media to improve student engagement and learning experiences.
The learning media introduced in the activity included integer and fraction abacus, as well as literacy media for basic arithmetic operations with natural numbers. The program also included practice and discussion sessions so that teachers could directly understand how to apply the materials in classroom learning.
The Principal of MA NU Safinatul Huda, Muhsin Alatas, S.Pd.I., expressed appreciation for the community service program conducted by the Mathematics Group of FMIPA UNNES. According to him, strengthening teacher competence is an important factor in creating a more effective learning process that can accommodate students’ diverse learning needs.
He hoped that the knowledge and skills gained during the activity could be applied sustainably in the school environment. Strengthening literacy practices and the use of learning media were considered important to help teachers present learning materials in ways that are easier for students to understand.
Through this activity, teachers were encouraged to design assessments that suit students’ characteristics and abilities. Teachers were also encouraged to use learning media more creatively and innovatively so that the learning process becomes more centered on students’ needs.
This approach is also connected to SDG 10 on Reduced Inequalities. Differentiated assessment helps teachers pay attention to differences in students’ abilities, needs, and learning styles, so that learning can become more inclusive.
In addition to material delivery, this community service activity also served as a forum for teachers and lecturers to share experiences and good practices in learning. The interaction during the activity gave teachers the opportunity to discuss classroom challenges and find solutions that fit their school context.
Through this activity, FMIPA UNNES expects the synergy between higher education institutions and schools to continue strengthening efforts to improve educational quality. Strengthening teacher competence through differentiated assessment and the use of learning media is one concrete step to support learning that is adaptive, innovative, and oriented toward students’ needs.
This activity also reflects FMIPA UNNES’ contribution to SDG 4 and SDG 10 through teacher competence development, more inclusive assessment practices, and the use of learning media to strengthen the quality of education in Karimunjawa.
