Universitas Negeri Semarang through its Quality Assurance Office (KPM) conducted a benchmarking visit to the Quality Assurance Unit (SPM) of Bandung Institute of Technology on 2–4 November 2023. The activity was part of the university’s efforts to strengthen the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI), improve higher education quality governance, and develop strategies toward international accreditation.

The KPM UNNES delegation was warmly welcomed by the management of SPM ITB, namely Dr. Kiki Vierdayanti, S.Si., M.Sc. as Secretary for Internal Quality Assurance, Ir. Winny Wulandari, Ph.D. as Secretary for External Quality Assurance, and Alni Hadiani Putri, S.ST. as Head of Secretariat. The meeting was conducted in a warm and collaborative atmosphere, reflecting the strong commitment of both institutions to advancing higher education quality assurance.

During the visit, both institutions discussed various best practices in the implementation of higher education quality assurance, particularly regarding the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI), quality document management, internal quality audit mechanisms, and strategies for strengthening a quality culture within the university environment.

The KPM UNNES team gained valuable insights and experiences related to the preparation stages for international accreditation, fulfillment of supporting documents, evidence management, and strategies for assisting study programs in meeting international standards. This discussion provided important references for UNNES in expanding international networks and enhancing global recognition through international accreditation.

In addition, the discussion also focused on the implementation of Outcome-Based Learning (OBL), particularly concerning the calculation and assessment of Graduate Learning Outcomes (CPL). The SPM ITB team shared experiences regarding the integration of CPL into the curriculum, methods for evaluating learning outcome achievement, and the utilization of evaluation results as the basis for continuous quality improvement in learning processes.

Another important topic discussed was the adjustment of higher education standards in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Permendikbudristek) Number 53 of 2023 concerning Higher Education Quality Assurance. Through this discussion forum, KPM UNNES obtained insights into strategies for developing quality standards, harmonizing SPMI documents, and implementing the latest regulations at both university and study program levels.

This benchmarking visit is expected to strengthen the synergy and collaboration between UNNES and ITB in the development of higher education quality assurance systems. Furthermore, the outcomes of this activity are expected to support policy enhancement and innovation within KPM UNNES in fostering a sustainable quality culture and supporting UNNES’ vision as an internationally reputable university.
