Related to SDGs

The Community Service Team from Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) introduced a concrete solution to the prolonged clean water crisis in Jambangan Village, Geyer District, Grobogan Regency on September 16, 2026. Funded by the Directorate of Research and Community Service, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology for Fiscal Year 2026, the academic team developed a Rainwater Harvesting Installation (IPAH) to build community resilience against severe droughts. Led by Prof. Dr. Tri Marhaeni Pudji Astuti, M.Hum., alongside team members Prof. Dr. Dewi Liesnoor Setyowati, M.Si., Fajar, S.Pd., M.Pd., and Jamhur, M.T., the project collaborated directly with the Pendowo Limo People’s Forest Farmers Group (KTHR), guided by Budi Setiawan, S.Hut., M.M.

The project was executed through three participatory visitation stages, starting from coordination with village officials, field surveys, joint construction of prototype IPAH units and clean water storage tanks, to interactive socialization sessions on facility maintenance. Head of the Service Team, Prof. Tri Marhaeni Pudji Astuti, emphasized the significance of technology transfer for local water security. “Rainwater harvesting can serve as a solution to the water shortage problem affecting Jambangan Village. We hope that with the assistance of IPAH and clean water tanks, the community will maintain them, and hopefully build their own systems at home so the water problem can be resolved,” she explained. Chairman of KTHR Pendowo Limo, Rencono Saputro, warmly welcomed the program and expressed hope for its expansion. “The socialization of this Rainwater Harvesting program is immensely beneficial. We hope similar programs continue to support sustainable development in Jambangan Village,” Rencono stated.

The development of rainwater harvesting in Jambangan Village directly advances three key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). First, the initiative advances Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6) by securing safe alternative water access for drought-prone communities. Second, the program contributes to Climate Action (SDG 13) as a climate adaptation measure against extended droughts while aiding flood mitigation during intense rainfall. Finally, the project embodies Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17) through active cooperation among higher education institutions, government funding bodies, and local community groups.
