History and Development of the Study Program.

UNNES Communication Science Study Program is in the curriculum of study programs that encourage and have a strategic role in facing socio-cultural changes both locally and globally such as climate change in social and media issues, the strengthening of local identity as a global challenge (identity politics) and changes in consumer behavior due to technological developments and innovations. In response to these global challenges, the communication science study program that will be opened focuses on three study clusters that are adjusted to the vision of Unnes, namely: 1) development communication (education and environment/conservation), 2) mass communication (journalism and content creators), 3) Public Relations (entrepreneurship, customer relations, employee relations, industrial relations).

Current Curriculum Applied

The curriculum of the UNNES Communication Science Study Program is designed by considering important things such as; the development of science and technology, the transition of communication patterns from conventional to digital, and the needs of the community (stakeholders) in the digital realm. The demands of the Industrial Revolution 5.0 are taken into consideration by the Study Program so that the curriculum is prepared based on the needs of human resources who are creative and responsive to global trends, master digital technology, and are able to adapt and have a dynamic mindset. The curriculum is arranged so that students master the theory, as well as have the skills to be ready to enter the world of work that continues to develop in the era of the Internet of Things (IoT). Graduate Competencies

Communication Science Study Program FISIP UNNES produces graduates who:

  1. Able to design and implement projects in the field of journalism (print, electronic, new media) based on the journalistic code of ethics.
  2. Able to design creative content and have multi-platform journalism skills.
  3. Have professional public relations skills in fostering a positive reputation with the public through various communications in traditional media, and other social media.
  4. Have the ability to conduct exploration, logical reasoning, generalization, and abstraction to formulate, and explain various methods of communication research techniques, design and conduct communication research, and collect and analyze data in communication research.

 

Graduate Job Opportunities

Graduates of the Communication Science Study Program of FISIP UNNES have broad job opportunities in various fields, especially in the three main study clusters: development communication, mass communication, and public relations. In development communication, graduates can work as communication facilitators in government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), or companies that focus on community empowerment and community development. In the mass communication cluster, they have opportunities as journalists, broadcasters, media producers, or media analysts in various media companies, both print, electronic, and digital. Meanwhile, in the field of public relations, graduates can have a career as PR consultants, communication managers, or public relations specialists in private companies, government agencies, and public relations agencies that play an important role in managing the image and strategic communication of an organization.
