The Political Science Study Program organized a studium generale titled Dissecting Political Marketing Strategies on Tuesday (April 7, 2026), held at the C7 Building Hall, 3rd floor, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP). The event was attended by fourth-semester Political Science students as part of their political marketing course.
The event featured Hendrar Prihadi, Mayor of Semarang for the 2013–2022 period, as the keynote speaker. The recipient of the Asia Best Mayor 2019 award was present as a practitioner lecturer and was welcomed by the Dean of FISIP, Arif Purnomo.
According to Prof. Arif, the material delivered by the former Head of the Government Procurement Policy Agency would be highly beneficial for students. “The speaker’s empirical experience can enrich students’ insights beyond the theoretical materials taught in class,” he stated.
In his presentation, Hendrar Prihadi emphasized contingency-based political marketing strategies in the digital era. He explained that political strategies cannot be generalized but must be adaptive to evolving conditions and contexts, including voter characteristics, social dynamics, and technological developments.
This approach is considered essential for building effective political communication and maintaining public trust. The session, moderated by Bambang Hermanto, was conducted interactively.
In his opening remarks, the moderator highlighted that the presence of practitioners provides additional motivation for students, as they can learn directly from real-world political experiences. Participants showed strong enthusiasm, particularly during the discussion session.
Several students expressed interest in pursuing careers in politics after graduation. One of them, Ananda Aris, demonstrated a critical and comprehensive analysis of the 2024 Central Java gubernatorial election during the discussion.
