Another proud achievement has been recorded by a student of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES). Gesner Elbaryo Naftali (Student ID 3401422146), a student of the Sociology and Anthropology Education Study Program, won First Place in the M21 Elite category in the National-level Middle Distance Orienteering competition at the Gear Orienteering event organized by Mapala Mandara, Universitas Diponegoro. The competition took place on 13–14 December 2025 at the Universitas Diponegoro campus area in Semarang.
In the M21 Elite category, Gesner delivered an outstanding performance, outperforming strong competitors, namely Mohammad Asep Sumardi from TNI AD 328 Dirgahayu Orienteering, who finished second, and Indra Surya Arditya from Mapala USM, who secured third place. This achievement confirms Gesner’s consistency and excellence as a national-level orienteering athlete capable of competing at the highest level.
The Dean of FISIP UNNES, Prof. Dr. Arif Purnomo, S.Pd., S.S., M.Pd., expressed his appreciation and pride in Gesner’s accomplishment. According to him, this success not only brings honor to FISIP and UNNES but also demonstrates that social science students are able to excel in non-academic fields.
“This achievement is clear evidence that FISIP UNNES students possess strong determination, discipline, and a high competitive spirit. We highly appreciate Gesner’s accomplishment and hope it will inspire other students,” said Prof. Arif.
Furthermore, he emphasized that FISIP UNNES remains committed to supporting the holistic development of students, both academically and non-academically, as part of shaping graduates who are outstanding, healthy, and globally competitive.
Gesner Elbaryo Naftali’s achievement is also closely related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) through the promotion of sports and active lifestyles, as well as SDG 4 (Quality Education) by encouraging the comprehensive development of students’ talents, interests, and competencies. In addition, the values of sportsmanship and resilience demonstrated in the competition contribute to the formation of a strong and principled young generation.
Through this achievement, FISIP UNNES hopes that students will continue to be motivated to excel in various fields, uphold the institution’s good name, and contribute positively to society and sustainable development.
