A strong message about conservation delivered by the Rector of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), Prof. Dr. S. Martono, M.Si., became the main highlight of the 135th Graduation Ceremony held today, Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Prof. Wuryanto Auditorium, UNNES.
In this period, UNNES graduated 1,493 students consisting of 15 doctoral graduates, 47 master’s graduates, 1,427 bachelor’s graduates, and 4 diploma graduates.
In his remarks, Prof. Martono congratulated the graduates and expressed appreciation to the parents who have supported their children in completing their studies at UNNES.
He also addressed the recent natural disasters in Aceh, West Sumatra, North Sumatra, and several other regions. Flash floods and environmental damage serve as a reminder that humans need nature, yet its utilization must remain within an ecological framework that prioritizes sustainability.
Prof. Martono stressed the importance of a conservation-oriented perspective for every UNNES graduate. He stated that nature is not an object to dominate, development must integrate economic, social, cultural, and ecological aspects, and the environment is a legacy that must be preserved for future generations.
These three principles, he emphasized, should serve as a moral foundation for alumni as they pursue their lives and careers.
“You are conservation cadres entrusted to apply and educate society about the importance of preserving nature, the environment, arts, culture, values, and character,” he asserted.
The Rector also reminded the graduates that they must embody conservation values in any profession. As teachers, they are expected to foster environmental awareness among students. As professionals, they should build an organizational culture that upholds ecological principles. And if they become leaders, they must ensure that conservation remains the basis of policy-making.
Concluding his speech, Prof. Martono once again congratulated all graduates of the 135th Graduation Period. He emphasized that graduation is not merely a sign of academic achievement, but the beginning of a new responsibility as UNNES alumni.
“Maintain your commitment, strengthen your awareness, and continuously develop your competencies to become outstanding conservation cadres who create positive impacts on the environment,” he encouraged.
