The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Universitas Negeri Semarang officially launched the Center for Gender, Child, and Social Inclusion Studies through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) themed “Mainstreaming Gender, Child, and Social Inclusion Issues in Sustainable Development” on Thursday, 13 November 2025, at Building C8, 3rd Floor, Room 307.

The event featured two keynote speakers. Prof. Dr. Tri Marhaeni Pudji Astuti, S.M.Hum., Professor of FISIP UNNES and a leading gender studies expert, opened the discussion by presenting various forms of gender inequality that persist in development processes. She highlighted that disparities in access, participation, and control over resources remain critical issues requiring strong commitment from government institutions, academia, and society.
The second speaker, Dra. Ema Rachmawati, M.Hum., Head of Department of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Population Control and Family Planning or Dinas Pemberdayaan Perempuan dan Perlindungan Anak, Pengendalian Penduduk dan Keluarga Berencana (DP3AP2KB) of Central Java Province, shared best practices in gender mainstreaming implemented by the provincial government. She emphasized that the success of gender mainstreaming is not only determined by regulations but also by program alignment, integration of sex-disaggregated data, and meaningful community involvement in every stage of development.
The FGD brought together participants from various sectors, including regional government representatives, academics, FISIP lecturers, and students. Their presence demonstrated the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in promoting inclusive and equitable development.

The establishment of the Center for Gender, Child, and Social Inclusion Studies is expected to serve as a strategic platform for research development, advocacy, and public education on issues related to equality and social justice. This initiative strengthens FISIP’s role as an academic institution responsive to contemporary social and humanitarian challenges.
This effort aligns with UNNES’s strong commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Through this new center, FISIP UNNES reinforces its contribution to fostering inclusive, child-friendly, gender-responsive, and socially just development for all members of society.
