Semarang, October 7, 2025 — Another proud achievement was made by students of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) in the 2025 Student Debate Competition organized by the Semarang City National Unity and Political Agency (Kesbangpol) in collaboration with DPD KNPI Semarang. The event, held at Quest Hotel Semarang, brought together university students from across the city, where the UNNES team successfully earned Third Place after a series of intense and competitive rounds.
The UNNES team consisted of five students from different faculties: Kirania Nafisatul Azahra (Civic and Citizenship Education, FISIP), Vania Nasywa Ulayya (Indonesian Language and Literature Education, FBS), Cicha Kartikha Sri Mulyani (Indonesian Literature, FBS), Muhammad Ainun Na’im (Civil Engineering, FT), and Andy Putra Pratama (Development Economics, FEB). Their interdisciplinary collaboration became a major strength in crafting sharp, rational, and evidence-based arguments throughout the debate sessions.
During the competition, participants were challenged to discuss various social, political, and national issues relevant to Indonesia’s current context. The UNNES team impressed the judges with their critical analysis, strong rhetorical skills, and deep understanding of national values — embodying the spirit of integrity, intellectual rigor, and civic responsibility.
This achievement received great appreciation from the university leadership. UNNES officials expressed pride in the team’s success, emphasizing that such accomplishments not only elevate the university’s reputation but also reinforce UNNES’s commitment to fostering critical thinking, open dialogue, and democratic engagement among students.
Beyond being a platform for intellectual competition, this activity also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Through this debate competition, students were trained to think critically, respect differing opinions, and contribute to building a just, peaceful, and inclusive society.
