Semarang, 30 September 2025 — The Department of Culture and Tourism (Disbudpar) of Semarang City, in collaboration with the academic team from Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), held a preliminary coordination meeting at the Disbudpar Meeting Room, 8th floor. The meeting aimed to develop a cultural heritage study of the Semarang Port area, encompassing both tangible and intangible cultural heritage. The session was led by the Head of the Cultural Affairs Division of Disbudpar and attended by all subdistrict heads whose administrative areas include the port region.
During the meeting, the subdistrict heads were encouraged to actively collaborate with the expert team in identifying and formulating existing cultural heritage assets within their respective regions. The results of this study will serve as the basis for the Cultural Heritage Determination Session conducted by the Cultural Heritage Expert Team, as well as for the designation of Intangible Cultural Heritage (WBTB) in the port area. From the academic side, UNNES plays a vital role through the involvement of Dr. Ufi Saraswati, M.Hum., who leads the research to ensure that documentation and designation processes are comprehensive and research-based.
This collaboration between Disbudpar and UNNES marks a strategic step in preserving the cultural identity of Semarang, particularly in the port area that holds deep maritime historical significance. Through a scientific and participatory approach, the study is expected to serve as a foundation for sustainable cultural preservation policies and to strengthen the cultural tourism appeal of the city.
The initiative directly contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG 4: Quality Education, by emphasizing public education, historical heritage preservation, and sustainable management of heritage sites. Moreover, this cross-sector collaboration between government and academia embodies the spirit of SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, establishing a strong foundation for cultural preservation as part of sustainable development in Semarang City.
