Semarang State University (UNNES) once again held its 133rd graduation ceremony on Saturday (27/9) at the Prof. Wuryanto Auditorium, UNNES. On this occasion, 1,489 graduates from various levels of education were officially inaugurated.
According to the report presented by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, the graduates consist of 4 doctoral graduates, 46 master’s graduates, and 1,439 bachelor’s graduates. Overall, the average Grade Point Average (GPA) achieved was 3.72, with details showing an average GPA of 3.99 for doctoral programs, 3.88 for master’s programs, and 3.71 for bachelor’s programs. In this period, the highest GPAs were achieved by doctoral and master’s graduates with a perfect score of 4.00, while the highest GPA for the bachelor’s program reached 3.99.
In his speech, the Rector of UNNES, Prof. Dr. S. Martono, M.Si., emphasized that this graduation holds a special meaning as the majority of the graduates belong to Generation Z (Gen Z). He explained that Gen Z has distinct advantages rooted in their close relationship with digital technology from an early age.
“Generation Z possesses natural digital skills, high creativity, strong adaptability, and a deep concern for global issues. These characteristics are essential assets for navigating the ever-changing world of work and social life,” he said.
However, Prof. Martono also reminded that behind these strengths, Gen Z often faces challenges such as the pressure to succeed, tendencies toward anxiety, and the risks of digital misinformation. Therefore, he encouraged the graduates to balance technological expertise with noble character and integrity.
“Achievements will be more meaningful when built upon the foundation of ethics and morality. In this way, UNNES graduates will not only be academically intelligent but also strong in character, collaborative, and beneficial to others,” added the Professor from the Faculty of Economics and Business.
With 1,489 students graduating in this period, UNNES further reaffirms its role as a conservation-minded and internationally reputable university. The graduates, most of whom come from the digital generation, are expected to become drivers of positive change, bringing innovation, and addressing the challenges of the nation and the world in the future.
