Semarang, 17 September 2025 – The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Negeri Semarang (FISIP UNNES), officially established a partnership with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) through the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) held at the FISIP UNNES Dean Building. The signing was carried out by Prof. Dr. Arif Purnomo, S.Pd., S.S., M.Pd., Dean of FISIP UNNES, and Dr. Budi Anto Mohd Tamring, Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs of Universiti Malaysia Sabah.
This collaboration focuses on strengthening the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely education, research, and community service. Its scope includes student mobility, joint supervision, academic publications, as well as collaborative research that contributes to the advancement of knowledge and solutions to global challenges. In addition, the partnership also opens opportunities for the development of joint programs involving lecturers and students from both institutions.
Prof. Dr. Arif Purnomo emphasized that this international partnership marks an important step for FISIP UNNES in expanding its global academic network and enhancing the university’s international reputation. “Through this collaboration, we expect to foster productive exchanges of knowledge and experiences that will bring real impact to the development of higher education and society,” he stated.
This partnership also makes a significant contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The initiative supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by improving access and quality of higher education through international collaboration, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by promoting joint research and innovation, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening cross-country academic and social partnerships.
Through the signing of this LoI, FISIP UNNES reaffirms its commitment to actively engage in building inclusive, innovative, and sustainable global networks. The collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sabah is expected not only to strengthen the Tri Dharma of Higher Education but also to provide tangible contributions to community development at the local, regional, and international levels.
