sitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) established a strategic research collaboration with two renowned universities in Japan, namely Kyoto University (QS rank 46) and Kobe University (QS rank 476). This cooperation is realized in the form of collaborative research with several laboratories at both universities, opening up opportunities for broader knowledge development and cooperation in the future.
Deep and Diverse Collaborative Research
UNNES researchers involved in this collaboration are Prof. Dr. Juhadi, Satya Budi Nugaraha, S.T., M.T., M.Sc., Aprillia Findayani, S.Pd., M.Ges. and Vina Nurul Husna, S.Si., M.Si. They actively participate in various promising collaborative research activities, such as:

  • Building a Safe and Inclusive School Environment: Under the auspices of the Graduate Studies Laboratory of Global Environmental Science, Kyoto University, Prof. Dr. Juhadi and Vina Nurul Husna, S.Si., M.Si. organized an activity entitled “Creating Safe and Inclusive School Environtment: A Workshop on Promoting Safety and Wellbeing in Japanese Schools”. This activity also involved Kobe University and Maiko High School. This collaboration with schools in Japan opened new insights related to the implementation of disaster education in Japan which has the potential to be adapted in Indonesia.
  • Towards Sustainable Agriculture: Research activities at the Rural Planning Laboratory, Kyoto University, focused on the theme of “Sustainable Agriculture”. UNNES researchers Satya Budi Nugraha, S.T., M.T., M.Sc. and Aprillia Findayani, S.Pd., M.GES explored the management of sustainable agriculture in Japan, including land use change and young generation participation in the agricultural sector. This activity was also carried out in the agricultural environment in Ohara, providing hands-on experience in the field.

Expectations and Objectives of the Collaboration
This series of collaborative research activities with Kyoto University (2 laboratories) and Kobe University are expected to produce various benefits, including:

  • Knowledge Development: Expanding the scope of knowledge and insights of Unnes researchers in the fields of disaster education and sustainable agriculture, as well as best practices implemented in Japan
  • Comprehensive Cooperation: Opening up opportunities for wider cooperation in the future, including in the form of exchanges of lecturers, students, joint publications, and other research activities.
  • Innovative Solutions: Supporting the development of innovative solutions in disaster education and sustainable agriculture that can be applied in Indonesia and Japan.
