Seven students from the Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) have completed the Outbound Student Mobility (OSM) program at Muzium Negeri Kelantan, Malaysia. The program formed part of the students’ learning experience to gain academic and professional exposure while familiarizing themselves with the arts, culture, history, and work environment of a Malaysian cultural institution.
The OSM program took place within the Muzium Negeri Kelantan complex and was officially received by the Director of the Kelantan State Museum Corporation (PMNK), YABrs. Encik Norhalis bin Mohamed Noor. The seven students comprised four from the Undergraduate Program in Fine Arts Education—Nofiani Retno Ulinuha, M Rijalul Azka Arifin, Dina Yuliana Sari, and Novellia Eka Wahyuning Putri—and three from the Undergraduate Program in Javanese Language and Literature Education—Krisna Davinda Ikhsa, Navita Dyah Saputri, and Haikal Erlangga Dharmaputra.
During the program, the students engaged in museum orientation, collection observation, documentation, information gathering, and product development tailored to their respective fields. As part of the program’s output, each student produced a prototype based on their experiences and learning at Muzium Negeri Kelantan. These outputs included an educational illustrated book titled Whispers of the Museum by Nofiani Retno Ulinuha, an Instagram Visual Guideline for Muzium Negeri Kelantan by Dina Yuliana Sari, an Interactive Brochure by Novellia Eka Wahyuning Putri, an Educational Poster by M Rijalul Azka Arifin, Kisah Kesetiaan: Siti Dewi, a Shadow Puppet Bilingual Storybook by Krisna Davinda Ikhsa, an Interactive Learning Media Video Pop-Up Book Wayang by Haikal Erlangga, and a book titled Peribahasa Melayu Haiwan by Navita Dyah. In addition to individual products, the students also produced joint outputs comprising a Muzium Negeri Kelantan Catalog, a Muzium Negeri Kelantan brochure, and an animation display for the Balai Senjata (Weapons Gallery).
All products were presented and handed over to the Muzium Negeri Kelantan on Wednesday, 2 September 2026. The students received a warm welcome and support from the museum staff throughout the program. Appreciation for the students’ work was also expressed by Cik Siti Khalisa Binti Mohd Sari from the Kelantan State Museum Corporation. She considered the products valuable as supporting media to introduce the museum’s collections and cultural heritage to the public.
“These products can support the delivery of information and education regarding the collections and cultural heritage to the community,” she stated.
The OSM program provided students with academic and professional experience while contributing to efforts to strengthen cooperation between FBS UNNES and the Kelantan State Museum Corporation in the fields of education, arts, and culture. This cross-border collaboration aligns with the spirit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 on Quality Education, which promotes experience-based learning and the development of global competencies, and Goal 17 on Partnerships for the Goals, which emphasizes the importance of international collaboration in strengthening education, arts, and cultural preservation. Furthermore, the program supports cultural heritage preservation efforts in line with Goal 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities.
FBS UNNES welcomes students’ achievements and remains committed to continually opening avenues for cross-border learning for its students, while expanding its cooperation networks with various cultural institutions across Southeast Asia. In doing so, students not only gain knowledge and skills but also serve as ambassadors of Indonesian culture, introducing the archipelago’s rich arts and traditions on the international stage.
