Students of the Faculty of Languages and Arts at Universitas Negeri Semarang (FBS UNNES) took part in an entrepreneurship talk show titled “Financial Freedom as a Student: More Than Just a Dream,” held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the FBS UNNES semicircular hall.
The event was organized by the SDGs 1 Development Cluster of FBS UNNES and featured Alfiyah, S.Pd., CEO of PT SMS Mulia, as the keynote speaker. The talk show aimed to broaden students’ insights and encourage them to start their own businesses from an early age.
The session was opened by Dr. Muhamad Burhanudin, S.S., M.A., Vice Dean II for General Affairs and Finance. In his remarks, he stressed the importance of students having the courage to venture into entrepreneurship as a step toward financial independence.
“Entrepreneurship is not just about making money; it is about building resilience, creativity, and problem-solving skills. These are essential for achieving financial freedom while still in college,” Dr. Burhanudin said.
He further linked the initiative to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). “By fostering an entrepreneurial mindset from an early stage, we are helping students create their own economic opportunities, reduce future dependency, and contribute to poverty alleviation. This aligns perfectly with SDG 1 and SDG 8,” he added.
The head of the SDGs 1 team, Nailur Rahmawati, M.Pd., also spoke at the event, expressing hope that the activity would open students’ eyes to available business opportunities. “We hope this event can broaden students’ perspectives that business opportunities are wide open, and that students can start with small steps to achieve financial independence,” she said.
Beyond delivering the material, the speaker actively engaged participants by asking them to write down business ideas and dreams they wanted to pursue. Through this exercise, students were encouraged to dare to try and not fear starting a business early.
The Q&A session was highly interactive, with students showing great enthusiasm in exploring various aspects of the entrepreneurial world.
This event serves as a starting point for students to transform ideas into concrete steps in the business landscape, supporting the university’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable economic empowerment.
