Atifa Fismawati, a student of the Faculty of Sports Science at Semarang State University (UNNES), brought home the 29th gold medal for Indonesia from the Pencak Silat category for women’s Class D. The competition was held at the Convention and Exhibition Center in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on Wednesday (10/5/2023). Atifa dominated the game from the beginning and successfully defeated Malaysia’s representative, Siti Shazwana Binti Ajak. 

Furthermore, Safira Dwi Meilani, another student from the Faculty of Sports Science at UNNES, also won a gold medal from the Pencak Silat category for women’s Class B. Safira faced Vietnam’s representative, Hoang Hoang An Nguyen. With her agility, she managed to take a significant lead of 11-1 in the first round. In the second round, Safira maintained her lead until reaching a score of 40-30. Not only that, Safira continued to launch dangerous attacks and led with a score of 61-43 in the third round. Safira’s excellent performance brought home the 33rd gold medal for Indonesia at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia. 

When contacted by the UNNES Public Relations team, Safira expressed her gratitude and pride in bringing home the gold medal for Indonesia. She stated that winning the gold medal was not an easy feat and that she had to prepare well and work hard. 

UNNES Rector, Prof Dr. S Martono MSi, expressed his pride and appreciation for the UNNES students who won gold medals at the 2023 SEA Games. He hoped that the achievement of these two UNNES students would motivate other UNNES students who are competing in the SEA Games 2023. 

“Alhamdulillah, UNNES sent its best athletes to strengthen Indonesia on the international stage. I feel proud and grateful for this achievement,” said Prof Martono.
