International student mobility provides valuable opportunities for students to gain academic experience abroad, broaden their perspectives, and engage with different educational and cultural environments. Such programs are also an important part of efforts to strengthen the internationalization of higher education.
The Architecture Engineering Study Program at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), is strengthening its internationalization efforts through the International Student Mobility program. This year, the program includes an international Field Study Course (Kuliah Kerja Lapangan/KKL) and student exchange opportunities at several universities across Southeast Asia.
A total of 40 students will take part in the international KKL program, visiting Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. One of the main activities is an academic visit to the Department of Architecture & Built Environment at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. The visit is expected to broaden students’ understanding of education, architecture, and the built environment from an international perspective.
The Architecture Engineering Study Program is also sending six students to the College of Architecture at Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST), Philippines, as part of a student exchange program. The exchange program was initiated the previous year and is expected to continue as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen academic collaboration between the two institutions.
In addition, two students will participate in an international mobility program at the Architecture Program, Faculty of Architecture and Fine Arts, Yersin University of Dalat, Vietnam. The program offers students the opportunity to study in an international academic environment while gaining broader cross-cultural perspectives.
These International Student Mobility activities contribute to the achievement of Key Performance Indicator (IKU) 2 by providing students with learning experiences outside the university. They also support IKU 6 through the development of partnerships with international counterparts. In line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the program contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing students’ learning experiences and to SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening partnerships among higher education institutions internationally.
Through the International Student Mobility program, the Architecture Engineering Study Program at the Faculty of Engineering, UNNES, aims to enhance students’ competencies and global perspectives while expanding sustainable international academic networks.
