The international conference will bring together academics, researchers, educators, students, and practitioners to advance sustainable development through mathematics, natural sciences, STEM, computational thinking, and transformative education.

SEMARANG, INDONESIA — The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Negeri Semarang (FMIPA UNNES), in collaboration with the SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM), will host the Joint International Conference ICMSE–ISMEI 2026 on October 14–15, 2026, at FMIPA UNNES in Semarang.

The event combines two major international academic forums: the 12th International Conference on Mathematics, Science, and Education (ICMSE 2026) and the 9th International Symposium on Mathematics Education and Innovation (ISMEI 2026).

Under the theme “Advancing Sustainable Futures through Mathematics, Natural Sciences, STEM, and Transformative Education,” the joint conference is designed as a collaborative platform for academics, researchers, educators, students, and practitioners to exchange knowledge, present research findings, and establish international academic networks.

The conference responds to the rapid transformation of education, science, technology, and innovation. Global challenges such as climate change, technological disruption, sustainability, social inclusion, and the need for future-ready human resources require interdisciplinary approaches supported by mathematics, natural sciences, STEM education, computational thinking, and transformative learning.

By combining the multidisciplinary strengths of ICMSE with ISMEI’s specialized focus on mathematics education and innovation, the conference is expected to generate broader discussions and meaningful collaboration across disciplines and institutions.

ICMSE 2026 will be held in a hybrid format, allowing participants to attend either onsite or online. Meanwhile, ISMEI 2026 will be conducted onsite at FMIPA UNNES.

The ICMSE conference tracks cover three main areas: mathematical, computational, and data sciences for sustainability; natural sciences, environment, and sustainable innovation; and science and mathematics education for sustainable development.

ISMEI 2026 will focus on STEM and computational thinking in mathematics, inclusive and equitable STEM education, future-ready pedagogy, sustainable mathematics learning, and the role of community engagement and global networks in advancing inclusive education.

The conference will feature prominent academics and experts from several countries. Scheduled speakers include Prof. Dr. Gillian Kidman from Monash University, Australia; Prof. Dr. Franck Lavigne from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, France; Prof. Dr. Matthias Ludwig from Germany; Dr. Nguyen Phu Hoang Lan from Vietnam National University; and Mahfuza Akter, Ph.D., from Sigma-Aldrich Corporation in the United States.

Other speakers will represent universities and educational institutions from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and other Southeast Asian countries. Their participation is expected to enrich discussions, promote the exchange of research experience, and strengthen international academic cooperation.

The two-day programme will include keynote addresses, parallel sessions, poster presentations, academic discussions, networking sessions, and opportunities for participants to share research and educational innovations.

Registration and submissions opened on July 10, 2026. The deadline for abstract, full paper, and poster submissions is August 20, 2026, while notification of acceptance is scheduled for August 23, 2026.

Participants may join as oral presenters, poster presenters, or non-presenting participants. ICMSE offers both onsite and online participation, while ISMEI registration is free of charge and available for onsite participation only.

Selected ICMSE papers may be considered for submission to international proceedings or partner journals, subject to further review, editorial requirements, and publication policies. Selected ISMEI papers may also be considered for regular submission to the Southeast Asia Mathematics Education Journal and selected UNNES journals.

The conference is expected to strengthen the dissemination of research in mathematics, science, STEM, education, and sustainability. It also aims to expand collaboration among universities, research institutions, educators, and international partners.

The Joint International Conference ICMSE–ISMEI 2026 supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

Through this international conference, FMIPA UNNES and SEAQiM reaffirm their commitment to fostering academic excellence, developing sustainable educational innovation, and creating stronger global partnerships in mathematics, science, STEM, and transformative education.
