To boost the quality and quantity of scientific publications in the international arena, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) organized a “Hybrid Workshop on Writing Articles for Reputable International Journals” on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. Held in a hybrid format, the event was centered in Room D12 (3rd Floor) at the FMIPA UNNES campus. The workshop featured a returning expert in computer science from Malaysia Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norisma Binti Idris from Universiti Malaya as the keynote speaker, with Anggyi Trisnawan Putra, S.Si., M.Si., serving as the moderator. This strategic workshop was opened by the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs at FMIPA UNNES, Zaenal Abidin, S.Si., M.Cs., Ph.D., and was attended by heads of study programs, computer science faculty members, FMIPA faculty delegates, Master’s and Doctoral students, as well as undergraduate students from the Class of 2024.
The workshop, titled “Mastering High-Impact Computer Science Journal Writing,” was initiated as a concrete step to enable UNNES researchers, faculty members, and graduate students to publish in reputable international journals. The event primarily focused on providing tactical insights and effective strategies for writing and publishing scientific articles in journals indexed by prestigious global databases such as Scopus and Web of Science (WoS). This initiative is considered crucial for elevating the institution’s global research profile while bridging the gap between laboratory innovations and international recognition, thereby ensuring a broad impact on the global scientific community.
The workshop was highly productive, commencing with a presentation on Universiti Malaya’s research profile by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norisma, which sparked an interactive discussion and generated great enthusiasm during the Q&A session. Moving beyond writing theory, the program continued with a campus and laboratory tour led by the Computer Laboratory Coordinator, Budi Prasetyo. During the tour, the guest speaker visited various computer science laboratories and research centers at the UNNES Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) to observe the facilities firsthand and explore potential future research collaborations. The event concluded with a networking lunch before the speaker was escorted back to their hotel.
Overall, the implementation of this workshop reflects FMIPA UNNES’s strong commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The activity directly contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing research capacity and high-level scientific literacy among faculty members and students across various academic levels. Furthermore, it supports SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by fostering the downstreaming of technological research and strengthening laboratory infrastructure as hubs for applied innovation. Finally, the strengthening of academic cooperation and planned research collaboration between UNNES and Universiti Malaya reinforces the realization of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) in building a sustainable scientific ecosystem at the regional level.
