UNNES Lecturer Presents Math Trails with Digital Technology in Qatar Math Day 2024

Lecturer from Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) continues demonstrating unwavering commitment to enhancing academic reputation, sharing knowledge, and expanding international networks. A concrete manifestation of this dedication is the contribution of Dr. rer. nat. Adi Nur Cahyono, M.Pd., was the keynote speaker at Qatar Math Day, a part of the Arab Mathematics Olympiad.

The event, held in Doha, Qatar, from November 10th to 14th, 2024, was initiated by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education of Qatar. Involving high school mathematics teachers, university professors, and high school students who will participate in the Arab countries’ Mathematics Olympiad, Qatar Math Day featured seminars, STEM exhibitions, and workshops focused on innovations in mathematics education.

In the seminar, Dr. Adi presented a topic titled “Learning Math All Around Us in the Digital Age-from Real-World Trails to Immersive Adventures,” which is the result of collaboration between researchers and practitioners from both within and outside the country who are part of the Centre for Research on Math Trails with Digital Technology (mathtrailslab.id). This center is an interdisciplinary, cross-institutional, and cross-national study center that examines Math Trails based on STEM Education using Digital Technology, such as Mobile Apps, AR/VR, AI, Robotics/Drone, and 3D Printing.

Furthermore, Dr. Adi also conducts workshops that teach participants how to design Math Trails using MathCityMap. Participants are invited to design outdoor mathematics learning paths, upload them to the MathCityMap portal, and simulate their use through the application. Additionally, Adi and his team designed STEM Trails in the Desert Sand Dunes outside Doha, which are themed Desert Sand Dunes Trails and are designed to provide interactive learning experiences while exploring the desert terrain using off-road vehicles.

Dr. Adi’s participation on the international stage is concrete evidence that UNNES faculty can compete globally. It is hoped that this activity will not only enhance UNNES’ reputation on the global stage but also positively impact the development of mathematics education in Indonesia.
