YOGYAKARTA, INDONESIA — The Quality Assurance Group of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Negeri Semarang (FMIPA UNNES), conducted a benchmarking visit and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FMIPA UGM), on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

The FMIPA UNNES delegation was led by the Head of the FMIPA UNNES Quality Assurance Group, Rifa’atunnisa, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. The visit aimed to explore best practices in academic quality assurance governance and strengthen the implementation of the Internal Quality Assurance System, locally known as Sistem Penjaminan Mutu Internal (SPMI), within FMIPA UNNES.

The discussion focused on the implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE), course portfolio assessment, curriculum management, and the use of learning outcome evaluation results as a basis for continuous quality improvement.

The FMIPA UNNES delegation received a warm welcome from the leadership of FMIPA UGM, including the Vice Dean for Education, Teaching, and Student Affairs, Prof. Drs. Roto, M.Eng., Ph.D., and the Head of the Quality Assurance Unit and Curriculum Committee, Prof. Dr. Mitrayana, S.Si., M.Si.

In her remarks, Rifa’atunnisa expressed her appreciation for the warm reception and openness of FMIPA UGM in sharing its experience in managing academic quality assurance.

“We sincerely thank the leadership of FMIPA UGM for the warm welcome and highly insightful discussion. This opportunity provides a valuable moment for us to learn and align strategic measures to improve the quality of education,” Rifa’atunnisa said.

During the FGD, both institutions discussed quality assurance implementation mechanisms, the development of assessment instruments, the monitoring of learning outcome achievement, and follow-up actions based on academic evaluation results. The discussion also examined the roles of quality assurance units and curriculum committees in maintaining the consistent application of academic standards.

The activity provided a platform for FMIPA UNNES and FMIPA UGM to exchange knowledge, experience, and strategies for developing a relevant, measurable, and quality-oriented learning system.

The benchmarking visit and FGD also supported the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

The activity contributed to SDG 4 through strengthened academic governance, the implementation of an outcome-based curriculum, and the development of assessment processes that support high-quality higher education. Meanwhile, the exchange of best practices and institutional collaboration between FMIPA UNNES and FMIPA UGM reflected the implementation of SDG 17.

Through this activity, FMIPA UNNES is expected to adapt relevant best practices to strengthen its Internal Quality Assurance System. The collaboration between the two faculties is also expected to continue in support of an excellent, adaptive, and globally competitive academic environment.
