FMIPA UNNES and INHART IIUM Establish International Research Collaboration on Halal Authentication of Meat Products

A collaborative research partnership between the Undergraduate Biology Study Program of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Semarang State University (FMIPA UNNES), and the International Institute for Halal Research and Training (INHART) of International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) was officially established in 2026. This collaborative research carries the theme “Metabolite Profiling of Meat Products Using PCR, GC-MS, FTIR for Halal Authentication in Indonesia and Malaysia,” focusing on the development of halal authentication methods for meat products in Indonesia and Malaysia through biotechnology approaches and modern metabolite analysis.

The research topic aligns with the Asta Cita agenda of the President of the Republic of Indonesia in strengthening human resources, science, technology, and health sectors. In addition, this research also represents an implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Goal 17, which emphasizes strengthening global partnerships to improve access to science, technology, and innovation, while also encouraging technology transfer to developing countries.

As part of the collaboration and visiting researcher activities, the Coordinator of the Biology Study Program of FMIPA UNNES, Dr. Dewi Mustikaningtyas, S.Si., M.Si.Med., together with Prof. Dr. Ari Yuniastuti, M.Kes., visited the International Institute for Halal Research and Training (INHART) at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) on Monday, April 27, 2026.

The FMIPA UNNES research team was warmly welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noor Faizul Hadry Bin Nordin, Deputy Dean of Postgraduate, Research, and Innovation at INHART IIUM. The meeting marked an initial step toward strengthening academic cooperation and international research collaboration between the two institutions, particularly in the fields of halal research, biotechnology, and science-based innovation development.
