The Undergraduate Physics Study Program of Semarang State University held a discussion and FGD on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, which discussed the topic “Review of the Undergraduate Physics Study Program Curriculum: Earth Physics Series”. This event presented Dr. Sigit Pramono, M.Sc., from the Center for Seismology Geopotential Engineering Time Signs, BMKG Center Jakarta, as a resource person. The main focus of the discussion was to review and improve the curriculum, by considering the differences in needs between the undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, as well as the importance of integrating the latest technology in earth science learning.

In the session, Dr. Sigit Pramono explained how geophysics is highly dependent on technological developments, especially in the fields of instrumentation, computing, and data analysis. This BMKG Jakarta expert also explained the importance of using modern technology in earth science research and the challenges faced in adapting this technology in higher education curricula. This discussion also covers the differences between undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, where at the postgraduate level students are expected to have a deeper understanding and application of the latest geophysical technology and methodology.
Through this activity, it is hoped that the Physics Study Program at Semarang State University can develop a more focused and applicable curriculum, both for undergraduate and postgraduate, by considering the rapid developments in the fields of earth science and geophysics. With guidance from experienced speakers, it is hoped that graduates of the UNNES Undergraduate and Postgraduate Physics Study Programs can have stronger competencies in facing the challenges of the professional world, especially in the earth sector which requires expertise in instrumentation and computing technology.
