Semarang, October 28, 2023 – A night filled with camaraderie and conservation spirit enveloped the coast of Pantai Tirang, Tugurejo, Tugu, Semarang City. It was the occasion when the Executive Student Board (BEM) of Universitas Negeri Semarang organized a gathering and coastal environmental conservation effort to commemorate Youth Pledge Day.
Under the moonlight and the sound of the waves, FMIPA UNNES students gathered on the beach to celebrate an evening of friendship organized by BEM FMIPA UNNES. The event featured a bonfire, games, and a series of lively activities prepared by the committee. The purpose of this event was to strengthen the bond among BEM members and to take concrete steps in supporting environmental conservation and addressing climate change in coastal areas.
One of the highlight moments, held on October 29, 2023, was a mangrove planting action involving environmental activists. Mangroves play a crucial role in maintaining coastal ecosystems, preventing erosion, and providing a habitat for various marine life. Therefore, their preservation is essential.
This activity received full support from BSPTH, BPDAS, the Tirang Beach Management, the Semarang Mangrove Community, and Kedai Joori. In this mangrove planting action, over 500 mangrove seedlings were planted on the coast of Pantai Tirang with guidance from @semarang_mangrove. Under the guidance of environmental experts, environmental activists learned the proper techniques for planting and caring for mangroves and the significance of Indonesian youth’s contribution to preserving coastal ecosystems.
In addition to mangrove planting, environmental activists also conducted a beach cleanup after the planting activity. This aimed to raise awareness about the importance of preserving coastal ecosystems and the role of mangroves in marine ecology.
This event also served as an opportunity for BEM to emphasize the importance of environmental conservation and encourage Indonesian youth to participate in preservation efforts. They hope that such activities can serve as an inspiring example to be carried out periodically and in various locations.
The evening of camaraderie on the beach and the mangrove planting conservation action carried out by BEM Universitas Negeri Semarang is a tangible example of how unity and environmental awareness can come together to create a meaningful experience while preserving the beauty of the coastal environment. With this spirit, it is hoped that our coastal environment will be maintained for future generations.
