The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Semarang State University (FMIPA UNNES) successfully organized “The 10th International Conference on Mathematics, Science, and Education 2023” with the theme “Human Resources Development on Mathematics & Science for Sustainable Environment” on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. ICMSE is an annual conference event, and this year marked its tenth anniversary. The conference was held in a hybrid format, both offline at the D12 Building, 3rd floor of FMIPA UNNES, and online through Zoom meetings.

Dr. Ardhi Prabowo, S.Pd., M.Pd., the Chair of ICMSE 2023, expressed gratitude to the co-hosts: Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering, and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) in Pakistan and the Mathematics and Natural Sciences Teacher Education Association (AMLI) of Indonesia. He also thanked all invited speakers from Finland, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Saudi Arabia, highlighting the international participation in the event.

The official opening of ICMSE 2023 was done by Prof. Dr. Zaenuri, M.Si. Akt., Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, representing Prof. Dr. S Martono M.Si., the Rector of Semarang State University. In his address, he expressed high appreciation for the international conference with the theme “Human Resources Development on Mathematics & Science for Sustainable Environment.”

Keynote speakers at ICMSE 2023 included Dr. Mohammad Sofwan Effendi, M.Ed., the Director of National Resources at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology in Indonesia, who presented on “Human Resources Development on Mathematics and Sciences for Sustainable Environment.”

ICMSE 2023 consisted of two sessions: a plenary session with several keynote speakers and a session for paper presentations by lecturers, practitioners, and researchers. The plenary session featured three keynote speakers from both domestic and international backgrounds: Prof. Sharipah Ruzaina Syed Aris from Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia, Prof. Dr. Isti Hidayah, M.Pd., from Semarang State University, Indonesia, and Dr. Kristof Fenyvesi from the University of Jyväskylä, Finnish Institute for Educational Research in Finland.

In this session, Assoc. Prof. Sharipah Ruzaina Syed Aris presented on “Education for Sustainable Development in Teacher Education,” Prof. Dr. Isti Hidayah, M.Pd. discussed “Development of Teaching Aids to Reduce Education Inequality,” and Dr. Kristof Fenyvesi delivered a presentation on “STEAM Education.”

The event also featured invited speakers, including Dr. Naif Mastoor Alsulami from the Faculty of Education at the University of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, Dr. Achmad Samsudin from Physics Education at the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Antuni Wiyarsi, S.Pd.Si., M.Sc. in Chemistry Education at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, Indonesia, Lathiful Anwar, S.Si, M.Sc, Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from the University Negeri Malang, Indonesia, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen van Bien from Hanoi National University of Education, Vietnam.

During the paper presentation session, lecturers, practitioners, and researchers shared the results of their research. Selected papers will be published in AIP Conference Proceedings (Indexed by Scopus), JPII Scopus Indexed Journal (Scopus Q2, SINTA-1), and Nationally Accredited Journal SINTA-2: Biosaintifika, Kreano, SJI, JPFI.

The Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at UNNES hopes that the ICMSE 2023 event can provide a positive impact for participants and presenters through the knowledge shared by speakers. ICMSE aims to become a conference platform that assists in publishing selected papers of increasing quality in the future.
