UNNES Wins 3rd Place in the 2023 Waste Management in Our Environment Competition

Semarang (17/11) Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) succeeded in achieving an achievement in the 2023 Waste Management in Our Environment (Lampah Kita) competition organized by the Semarang City Government. This competition was held to encourage public awareness about maintaining a clean environment.

Lampah Kita is a video-based competition that discusses waste management in schools, communities, industry, public services, and so on. The stages of this competition start with a video, presentation, and question-and-answer session, as well as direct verification by the Semarang City Environmental Service.

The innovation shown by UNNES in the video is waste processing using the maggot feed method. This maggot is the larva of the Black Soldier Fly (BSF). Maggot was chosen as a medium for managing organic waste because it has a fairly high selling value and is much sought after by the public.

The awarding of the competition will be held on November 17, 2023, along with a series of Pandanaran art and festival events. UNNES, in this case the Subdirectorate of Conservation and TPST, won 3rd place in the higher education innovation category. The award was received by Prof. Dr. Amin Retnoningsih, M.Sc., as Head of the Conservation Subdirectorate. With this achievement, it is hoped that we can continue to contribute to preserving the environment.
