Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) concluded its 61st anniversary celebration by holding a wayang (traditional puppet) performance as part of its commitment to cultural preservation and the strengthening of local wisdom values. The event took place in early June 2026 on the UNNES campus, involving both the academic community and the public.
The wayang performance symbolized UNNES’s dedication to preserving and promoting national culture amid rapid modernization. The event served not only as entertainment but also as an educational platform that conveyed philosophical and cultural values.
Through the stories presented in the wayang performance, moral, social, and national values were communicated in an engaging manner. Themes such as leadership, wisdom, and ethical conduct were highlighted, making them relevant for younger generations.
The Rector of UNNES, Prof. Dr. S. Martono, M.Si., emphasized the importance of cultural preservation within academic environments. “Through this activity, UNNES reaffirms that cultural preservation is an integral part of education and a means to build students’ character rooted in national values,” he stated.
In addition to marking the closing of the anniversary celebrations, the event also strengthened the relationship between the university and the community. Public participation demonstrated that traditional arts remain relevant and appreciated in contemporary society.
Through this wayang performance, UNNES reaffirmed its role as a conservation-oriented university that promotes not only environmental sustainability but also cultural preservation as part of sustainable development.
This activity supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
