Departemen Geografi menggelar studium generale internasional bertema mitigasi bencana. Kegiatan ini berlangsung di Aula Gedung C7 FISIP, Sekaran, Gunungpati, Semarang, Selasa tujuh April 2026.

Stadium generale ini Mengangkat tema “Resilient and Disaster Mitigation Strategies of Japan and Bangladesh”. Dalam kegiatan itu menghadirkan dua akademisi internasional, yakni Prof. Md. Anwarul Abedin, dari Bangladesh Agricultural University dan Gulsan Ara Parfin dari Ritsumeikan University, Jepang.

Di hadapan ratusan mahasiswa, Prof. Anwarul Abedin menekankan pentingnya peran generasi muda dalam menjaga lingkungan dan menghadapi bencana.“Sebagai generasi muda yang kelak memegang kepemimpinan, kalian punya tanggung jawab menjaga kelestarian bumi, tanah, dan air sebagai sumber kehidupan,” ujarnya.

Dalam pemaparannya, ia menyoroti persoalan krisis air serta penurunan muka tanah yang terjadi di Bangladesh dan Indonesia, terutama saat menghadapi cuaca ekstrem. Sementara itu, Gulsan Ara Parfin membahas sistem mitigasi bencana di Jepang yang dikenal maju, termasuk kesiapsiagaan masyarakat dalam menghadapi gempa, tsunami, hingga topan.

Ia menyebut, badai menjadi bencana paling sering terjadi di Jepang pada periode 2000–2018, disusul gempa bumi. Meski demikian, gempa bumi menjadi bencana paling mematikan, terutama pada peristiwa gempa besar 2011 yang memicu tsunami.

Diskusi juga menyinggung pentingnya pengelolaan lingkungan, termasuk kawasan hutan. Di Jepang, sebagian besar hutan justru dimiliki pihak swasta dan berperan penting dalam menjaga daerah aliran sungai serta keseimbangan ekosistem.

Antusiasme mahasiswa terlihat tinggi dalam sesi diskusi, terutama saat membahas kemungkinan penerapan strategi mitigasi dari Jepang dan Bangladesh di Indonesia.

Salah satu mahasiswa Pendidikan Geografi, Joan Thalita, menilai pentingnya peran komunitas masyarakat dalam menghadapi bencana, khususnya yang berkaitan dengan perairan.“Komunitas sangat penting untuk meningkatkan kesiapsiagaan masyarakat,” ujarnya.

Kegiatan ini juga diisi dengan penandatanganan nota kesepahaman atau MoU antara FISIP UNNES dengan Bangladesh Agricultural University dan Ritsumeikan University. Kerja sama tersebut diwakili Wakil Dekan II FISIP UNNES, Fadly Husain.

Kerja sama ini diharapkan memperkuat kolaborasi riset, pertukaran pengetahuan, serta pengembangan keilmuan di bidang mitigasi bencana ke depan. Kegiatan seminar ini turut mendukung pencapaian Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (SDGs), khususnya dalam upaya membangun ketangguhan masyarakat terhadap bencana serta menjaga keberlanjutan lingkungan.
