UNNES Welcomes UMPSA Malaysia Students for Short Course “Natura Scientia Camp Season 3”

Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) welcomed 14 students from the Faculty of Computing, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), to participate in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Short Course Program, “Natura Scientia Camp Season 3,” held from 13-17 December 2025. The program forms part of the FMIPA Global Student Mobility Inbound Program.

The UMPSA delegation was officially received at the UNNES Rectorate Meeting Room. The welcoming ceremony was attended by the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, the Vice Rector for Cooperation, Business, and International Relations, the Head of International Affairs and the SDGs Center, and the Vice Dean I of FMIPA UNNES.

Natura Scientia Camp Season 3 was conducted under the theme “Code, Craft, and Culture: Integrating Science, Technology, and Local Wisdom.” The program was developed in response to the growing need for contextual, innovative, and interdisciplinary science education grounded in conservation values. It integrates science, technology, the arts, and local cultural heritage into a cohesive learning experience.

In his remarks, UNNES Vice Rector I for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Zaenuri, M.Si., Akt., expressed hope that the collaboration would extend beyond this visit.

“We hope this program marks the beginning of sustainable collaboration and will, in the future, be followed by a reciprocal visit from UNNES to UMPSA,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Nur Qudus, M.T., IPM., Vice Rector IV for Cooperation, Business, and International Relations, conveyed his appreciation for the presence of UMPSA students at UNNES.

“Four days provide meaningful opportunities for collaboration and mutual learning. We hope this initiative will be followed by further cooperative programs. Thank you for your trust in UNNES,” he remarked.

Prof. Nur Qudus also suggested that, in addition to participating in academic workshops, the short course could be enriched by a joint tree-planting activity as an embodiment of UNNES’ conservation values during the students’ stay.

Throughout the program, UMPSA students engaged in a range of activities, including Serious Game Design, a Gamelan Workshop integrating traditional music and the science of sound, a Build Simple IoT Prototype workshop, and an Eco-print Workshop utilizing natural materials. These activities were designed to promote project-based learning rooted in local context.

Vice Dean I of FMIPA UNNES, Zaenal Abidin, S.Si., M.Cs., Ph.D., emphasized that UNNES is widely recognized as a Conservation Campus, and therefore all program activities were aligned with the institution’s core values and character.

The program aims to deliver interdisciplinary learning experiences, strengthen FMIPA UNNES’ position as a pioneer in conservation-based education, and further develop FMIPA’s flagship international programs at the global level.

Currently, UNNES hosts international students from 27 countries, reflecting its commitment to advancing the internationalization of higher education and expanding its global network.

Through Natura Scientia Camp Season 3, UNNES and UMPSA are expected to further strengthen academic cooperation and foster sustainable collaboration in science, technology, and culture grounded in local wisdom.
