UNNES Student Achieves a Gold Medal in an World Wushu Competition

Students of the Department of Physical Education, Health and Recreation (PEHR), Semarang State University (Unnes), Yusuf Widiyanto, donates gold medals in Wushu World Championship 2015. He beat 904 athletes from 74 countries.
Yusuf, a second year student, has won gold on the sanda number (fighting) after winning 2-1 over an athlete from Vietnam, Van Bau To, in Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (18/11).
For Yusuf, his achievement this time was very encouraging. Competing in the World Wushu Championships 2015 was the first time for him to be at senior level. Earlier, Joseph never won a bronze medal at the world championships in Macau junior level.
“This medal is dedicated to Unnes, to Central Java, and of course to Indonesia,” he said. He will still have to fight with the contingent of Central Java in PON 2016, SEA Games in 2017 and Asian Games 2018.
Unnes PEHR lecturer, Henny Setyawati MSi, admitted that Yusuf’s victory is of course a long process of programmed, intensive, ongoing and continuous training. “This process cannot be separated from his humble, disciplined, diligent personality during the process of training,” said the lecturer who is also the International Wushu referee.
According to Unnes Rector, Prof Dr Fathur Rokhman MHum, the achievement completes Unnes previous achievements, “in various international events, Unnes, whose nickname is House of Knowledge, indeed always puts its athletes on the championship ladder,” he said.
