UNNES Implements International Community Service Program on Digital Parenting at Sekolah Indonesia Mekkah

The Faculty of Education and Psychology (FIPP) of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) successfully implemented an international community service initiative titled “Digital Interactive Parenting (DIP) to Enhance the Flourishing of Immigrant Parents at Sekolah Indonesia Mekkah.”

The program, conducted in Makkah on October 27, 2025, was designed to strengthen cross-border educational engagement and promote family well-being within Indonesian immigrant communities.

The initiative was led by Farid Ahmadi, S.Kom., M.Kom., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of FIPP UNNES, together with team members Achmad Miftachul ’Ilmi, S.Pd., M.Pd., Dr. Wulan Aulia Azizah, S.Pd., M.Pd., Elok Fariha Sari, S.Pd.Si., M.Pd., and Fitria Dwi Prasetyaningtyas, S.Pd., M.Pd.

The program also involved an external partner, Mustafa, Head of Sekolah Indonesia Mekkah, who provided institutional support and facilitated engagement with participating parents.

The Digital Interactive Parenting (DIP) program was conceptualized as a structured mentoring and empowerment initiative to strengthen positive parenting competencies among immigrant parents in the digital era.

Using interactive, technology-based approaches grounded in Indonesian family values, the program seeks to promote flourishing, defined as happiness, psychological well-being, and the development of positive parent–child relationships within transnational family settings.

In his remarks, Farid Ahmadi, S.Kom., M.Kom., Ph.D., emphasized that this initiative reflects UNNES’s commitment as a Conservation University with an International Reputation, actively contributing to global educational impact.

He noted that the program introduces an adaptive and sustainable parenting model integrating local wisdom and digital technology to support immigrant parents in nurturing their children’s growth and development effectively.

The activity included interactive training sessions, reflective discussions, and simulations of character-based digital parenting practices. Parents from Sekolah Indonesia Mekkah participated enthusiastically and expressed that the DIP program provided meaningful insights into harmonizing technology use, family communication, and spiritual values in everyday parenting.

In addition to its educational and social contributions, the initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals by advancing well-being, quality education, and international partnership, particularly through collaborative efforts between Indonesian higher education institutions and overseas educational organizations.
