UNNES reaffirms its solid commitment to fostering inclusive education, especially for women, through systematic tracking of applications. The university consistently monitors and reports gender statistics in student admissions, as evident from its public disclosures and annual admissions reports.
From 2022 to 2025, in the undergraduate admission category, women have consistently made up a majority of applicants and the numbers continue to rise each year. In 2022, female applicants reached 6,891, while male applicants totaled 3,434. In 2023, the numbers were 6,591 females and 3,943 males. The upward trend continued in 2024, with 7,102 female applicants compared to 4,025 males, and in 2025, female applicants numbered 7,023, while male applicants totaled 4,164.
This consistent growth demonstrates that the number of female students at UNNES has been increasing annually, both in application rate and acceptance rate. Based on UNNES’s 2024 data, female applicants accounted for 66% of total applicants, while male applicants represented only 34%, highlighting a strong and steady preference for UNNES among women pursuing higher education.
These figures reveal not only that more women seek higher education at UNNES, but also that the campus is regarded as a welcoming and supportive learning environment for women.
In addition to admissions, UNNES actively monitors the retention and academic participation of female students. The robust presence of active female students, consistent with their dominance in admissions, underscores UNNES’s success in sustaining an inclusive academic environment.
Inclusive Education Frameworks
UNNES’s gender inclusivity aligns with major policy frameworks. Internationally, UNESCO advocates for the inclusion and empowerment of women, notably in the Salamanca Statement and subsequent conventions. Domestically, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) mandates gender equality and inclusivity through regulations and periodic policy updates—particularly under the Regulation of the Minister of National Education No. 90 of 2009 concerning Inclusive Education and Law No. 20 of 2003 on the National Education System.
These regulatory instruments oblige institutions to mainstream gender considerations in their planning and operational processes, including the systematic tracking of gender statistics in admissions and enrollment.
UNNES continues to welcome every member of its academic community through initiatives aimed at empowering women, acknowledging them as critical assets and actors in education and broader societal development. Programs and policies to support female students include leadership workshops, gender equality forums, mentoring schemes, and safe campus initiatives aligned with national and international standards. The university’s ethos emphasizes not only numerical parity but also qualitative opportunities—ensuring that women are provided with the environment, resources, and encouragement to achieve academic and professional success.
