The Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) welcomed Prof. Dr. Rizalman bin Mamat from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) as a distinguished speaker in its Visiting Top Professor Program, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening academic excellence and global research competitiveness.
Carrying the theme “Empowering Scientific Writing, Enhancing Research Quality, and Advancing International Publication,” the program was held at the 3rd Floor Meeting Room of the Faculty of Engineering Dean’s Building. The initiative forms part of UNNES’ broader effort to support the OLOS (One Lecturer, One Scopus) program, which encourages each lecturer to contribute to internationally indexed publications.
Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Wirawan Sumbodo, M.T., emphasized the importance of the program in elevating the quality of academic output. He stated that the Visiting Top Professor initiative represents a concrete step toward enhancing lecturers’ capabilities in producing high-impact scientific publications.
“This program is expected to strengthen the capacity of our lecturers in generating internationally reputable scientific work, while also supporting the achievement of the OLOS program,” he noted.
The program ran from April 14 to April 18, 2026, featuring a comprehensive series of academic activities. These included guest lectures on advanced research methodologies, experimental design, and scientific writing; academic workshops focusing on energy efficiency in the automotive industry; international manuscript clinics aimed at improving publication readiness; and collaborative mentoring sessions for students. Participants also gained valuable insights into effective strategies for publishing in reputable international journals.
Beyond academic enrichment, the program contributes directly to the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing higher education quality and research skills, SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) through discussions on energy efficiency, and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by fostering innovation and strengthening research infrastructure.
Through this initiative, UNNES aims to inspire lecturers and students alike to actively engage in global academic discourse, increase publications in Scopus-indexed journals, and reinforce the university’s vision as a conservation-oriented and internationally reputable institution.
