Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) continues to support employee welfare by expanding access to decent and affordable housing through cooperative financing schemes and partnerships with financial institutions. As part of its commitment to sustainable development, UNNES facilitates housing finance to help lecturers and administrative staff meet their housing needs through more accessible financing options.
Through Koperasi Pegawai Handayani UNNES (Handayani Employee Cooperative), the university provides financing facilities for home purchases, house renovations, and residential land acquisition. The cooperative offers instalment-based loans with relatively low interest rates and simplified administrative procedures, enabling eligible members to pursue homeownership without relying solely on commercial financing. The initiative reflects the cooperative principles of mutual support and shared economic benefits.

UNNES reports that its affordable housing support reaches approximately 30.94%. This initiative forms part of the university’s broader efforts to improve employee welfare and access to adequate housing. The percentage represents the reported coverage of the housing support initiative; further details on the calculation and the number of beneficiaries can help clarify its scope.
In addition to the Handayani Cooperative, UNNES facilitates access to housing finance through partnerships with Bank BNI, Bank BTN, and Bank Jateng. These partnerships provide additional financing options for lecturers and administrative staff seeking suitable homes at affordable costs. By working with banking institutions, UNNES aims to broaden access to housing finance and support employees in making informed decisions about homeownership.

The commitment was further reflected in 2025, when the Faculty of Law at UNNES reported cooperation with Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) to improve employees’ access to housing finance. The initiative included facilitating information and socialization regarding housing financing schemes, mortgage requirements, and available homeownership options, helping employees better understand the opportunities and responsibilities associated with housing loans.
Through these initiatives, UNNES demonstrates that employee welfare extends beyond the workplace to include access to decent and affordable housing. By combining cooperative financing with partnerships with banking institutions, the university contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), while reinforcing its commitment to building a supportive and sustainable working environment.
