Prof. Dr. Arif Purnomo is a Professor of the Philosophy of Social Sciences Education and teaches in the Social Sciences Education Study Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES). The second son of (the late) Mr. Parwoto and Mrs. Hj. Zaenah, he was born in East Jakarta on January 31, 1973. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the History Education Department at IKIP Yogyakarta (1995) and his master’s degree from the Faculty of Philosophy at UGM (1998). He pursued his master’s in Educational Research and Evaluation, graduating in 1999, and obtained his doctorate in 2020 from the IPS Education Program at UNNES. His work focuses on improving the quality of IPS education, participating in numerous seminars, and producing several works published in reputable national and international journals. His published books include: Filsafat Ilmu (in Maman Rachman et al. 2006), Merancang Pembelajaran IPS (2018), Pola Pembelajaran IPS pada Guru Berlatar Belakang Monodisiplin dan Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis Siswa (2020), “Revitalisasi Pembelajaran IPS Tematik-Integratif di Sekolah Menengah Pertama” in the book chapter Memikirkan Kembali Arah Pendidikan Indonesia: Kritik, Potensi, dan Rekomendasi (2022), “Strategi Pengurusan Mampan Sisa Plastik semasa Pandemik COVID-19 di daerah Pekalongan, Indonesia” in the book chapter Kepelbagaian Isu Pengurusan Sisa Pepejal dalam Persekitaran Manusia (2023), Buku Ajar Mitigasi Bencana Banjir Berbasis Pedagogi Kritis Pada Mata Pelajaran Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial (2023), and Mandi Air Keruh, Ekologi Politis Banjir Surakarta (1861-1938) (2024). In addition to his tri dharma activities, he is active in professional organizations such as APRIPSI, P3Si, and HISPISI.
