Biography

Prof. Dr. Ali Masyhar Mursyid, S.H., M.H., was born in Demak, Central Java, on November 18, 1975. During his schooling he completed his studies in madrasahs, starting from Madrasah Ibtidaiyah “Tsamrotul Huda I” in Jatirogo, then MTs “Sunan Kalijogo” in Bonang, and Madrasah Aliyah “Islamic Center” in Demak. He earned his Bachelor of Law from Universitas Diponegoro, Semarang in 1999, his Master of Law from the same university in 2005, and his Doctorate from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta in 2015. During his college years, young Ali Masyhar Mursyid was active in student activities such as the Islamic Activities Coordinator (KKI), Student Senate, Student Representative Body, and Islamic Spirituality Organization at Undip, as well as active in extracurricular organizations. He began his teaching career after graduating in 1999, and in December 1999 he was appointed as a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Pekalongan (Unikal). Since 2003, he has been a permanent lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), teaching core courses in Criminal Law, Criminal Law Policy, and Comparative Criminal Law. He has served as the Head of the Center for Legal Studies and Assistance (PKBH) at UNNES and as a Staff Expert to the Rector of UNNES. He is currently serving as the Dean of the Faculty for the period 2023–2028. In addition to his permanent position at UNNES, he also serves as a guest lecturer at various universities in Indonesia and is active in delivering lectures at numerous seminars and workshops. He is recognized as an expert in criminal law policy, with a particular focus on radicalism and terrorism.
