Semarang, September 24, 2026 — The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), held September MIPA under the theme “Ku Bahagia” as part of the celebration of FMIPA UNNES’ Dies Natalis. The event served as a moment to strengthen togetherness while showcasing creativity, innovation, culture, and the contributions of the FMIPA academic community to sustainable development.
The theme “Ku Bahagia”, which can be understood in English as “I’m Happy”, carries a message that FMIPA is not merely a place to learn, teach, conduct research, and work, but also a space to grow, create, compete, collaborate, and find happiness together. The phrase draws on the familiar Indonesian pop-culture expression “Ku Bahagia,” popularized by Indonesian singer-songwriter Melly Goeslaw, giving the theme a cheerful and relatable cultural touch.
September MIPA was not merely a festive celebration, but also provided a platform to showcase the various potentials and achievements of FMIPA. In addition to a student entrepreneurship exhibition, the event featured research and community engagement innovation exhibitions from each academic cluster within FMIPA. The exhibitions presented a range of research outputs, innovations, and community engagement initiatives developed by the academic community as part of FMIPA’s contribution to addressing challenges in society and the environment.
The Dean of FMIPA UNNES, Prof. Dr. Edy Cahyono, M.Si., expressed his joy on behalf of the entire FMIPA community at the celebration of September MIPA in the faculty’s new lecture building. He also expressed his appreciation and gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success and vibrancy of the event.
“This is a moment of happiness for all of us because September MIPA can be held in our new lecture building,” said Prof. Edy.
Meanwhile, the Rector of UNNES, Prof. Dr. S. Martono, M.Si., congratulated FMIPA on the celebration of September MIPA. He expressed his hope that FMIPA would continue to progress and make an increasingly meaningful contribution to the university community.
“May FMIPA continue to succeed, advance, grow, and become increasingly embraced by the entire UNNES community,” said Prof. Martono.
The opening of September MIPA was symbolically marked by watering a damar tree. The damar tree is closely associated with FMIPA and carries a meaningful philosophy, symbolizing enlightenment, sincerity in providing benefits, strong bonds of kinship, and a guiding light in life.
The spirit of togetherness was further reflected in various competitions involving lecturers, education staff, and students of FMIPA. One of the highlights was the defile competition, which showcased participants’ creativity and team spirit. The event also featured a Javanese song karaoke competition, which promoted appreciation and preservation of local arts and culture. The competition provided members of the academic community with an opportunity to express their appreciation for Indonesian cultural heritage while creating a warm and enjoyable atmosphere.
Creativity was also showcased through the moringa-based cooking competition. The activity highlighted moringa leaves as a locally available food resource with significant nutritional potential and as a widely recognized superfood. Participants presented a variety of creative dishes, including moringa pudding, moringa nasi uduk, moringa wontons served with moringa-based sauce, moringa pancakes, and other innovative creations. The diversity of dishes demonstrated that moringa can be developed beyond simple food preparations into attractive and innovative culinary products. Through the competition, FMIPA encouraged creativity in utilizing local food resources while promoting appreciation of Indonesia’s biological resources.
The celebration was further enlivened by various fun games involving members of the academic community. These activities provided opportunities for recreation while strengthening interaction, communication, and a sense of togetherness among members of the FMIPA family.
The atmosphere became even more vibrant with a special performance by students from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia. Their participation enriched the event while reflecting the spirit of international collaboration and cross-border academic interaction.
The student entrepreneurship exhibition also provided a platform for students to showcase their creativity and entrepreneurial potential through a variety of products. The combination of the entrepreneurship exhibition with research and community engagement showcases demonstrated that FMIPA is committed not only to advancing scientific knowledge but also to fostering creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship, and meaningful contributions to society.
The September MIPA “Ku Bahagia” series continued on Friday, September 25, 2026, with a petanque competition involving members of the FMIPA academic community. The activity formed part of the Dies Natalis celebration and provided another opportunity to strengthen togetherness, promote sportsmanship, and encourage interaction among members of the faculty community.
The September MIPA “Ku Bahagia” celebration also reflects FMIPA UNNES’ commitment to sustainable development. Its various activities contribute to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 2: Zero Hunger through the promotion and creative utilization of local moringa-based food; SDG 4: Quality Education through the dissemination of knowledge and research innovations; SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth through student entrepreneurship; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through research innovation exhibitions; SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities through the preservation of local arts and culture; SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production through the utilization of local food resources and development of creative products; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration and interaction with international partners.
Through September MIPA “Ku Bahagia,” FMIPA UNNES presented a Dies Natalis celebration that went beyond festivity, providing a space to showcase innovation, creativity, culture, entrepreneurship, research, community engagement, and sportsmanship. The celebration reflects FMIPA’s continuing efforts to foster an academic environment that is collaborative, innovative, culturally aware, and committed to sustainable development.
