On Thursday, February 6 2025, physics education student, Figi Anggun Yossindy, held a thesis trial with internal examiner Dr. Bambang Subali, M.Pd and Fianti, S.Si, M.Sc, Ph.D Eng and external examiner Dr. Lolly Jean C Simbulas from the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) Philippines. Figi, the student’s nickname, conducted research on the development of a Flipbook E-Module based on Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) Quantity and Unit Material to Improve Critical Thinking Skills for Class X Students under the guidance of Dr. Ellianawati, M.Sc. Dr. Lolly was very impressed with Figy’s idea to utilize the wisdom of traditional measuring instruments such as cubits, fathoms, spans, and others to measure the length of objects which were then converted into international standard units. This effort not only strengthens the concept of measurement in physics but also improves critical thinking skills in converting quantities and units. The CRT syntax provides students with the opportunity to explore local wisdom thereby raising awareness of cultural riches and how their ancestors were aware of the importance of measurements in transactions and metrics in building construction. The examiners appreciated Figy’s efforts because the questions asked could be answered well. The results of this research recommend the importance of presenting local wisdom contexts in learning and can be enhanced with three-dimensional visual displays for several traditional measuring tools with the help of Augmented Reality (AR).
